This popular evergreen shrub provides a point of interest to any garden border. The variety Silver Queen has pale green evergreen foliage with creamy-white margins that term different shades of pink according to the winter temperatures.

Pittosporum suits all types of well drained soil and this variety can grow up into a nicely rounded bush 250cm high x 200cm wide. 

They like light clipping to shape each year which encourages them neat and compact. They only require light clipping removing 5-10cm of foliage and must not be cut back into the old wood as they will not regenerate.

Pittosporum has a dense bushy habit and upright branches. With dark glossy green leaves on the upper side and slightly paler underneath.

Adapts well to all types of soil providing its well drained. Prefers regular pruning every year, rather than a hard cut every few years.

Lonicera nitida is often confused with Buxus ( Box ) hedging as it has a similar small leaf. The small leaf helps to keep a sharper edged formal look to the hedge and with a good growth rate Lonicera can form a good hedge in less time than Buxus and not suffer any ailments.

As Lonicera thrives on being regularly trimmed it is also possible to create interesting shapes and forms using this hedging plant.

To create a formal sharp look we would recommend trimming the plant in late spring after its spring growth spurt and then lightly again in late summer so it looks neat and tidy throughout the winter months.

Portuguese laurel has increased in popularity in recent years as grows into a medium to large hedge like Cherry laurel but has a much smaller leaf so you can create a finer manicured look to your boundary hedge.

Evergreen bright ovate and pointed green leaves adorn red branches that bring colour to the garden in the winter cold.

Suitable for most soil types and positions although the foliage will be sparser in deep shade. Avoid planting in a windy location.

Creates an excellent boundary hedge from 1.50m to 4.0m high.

Although the new varieties of Genolia & Novita have a more erect habit which is useful when you need a high hedge but do not have a good width to plant it in, with Rotundifolia it wins if you need to fill a wide or deep gap in your existing boundary as it becomes so much broader.

This excellent new selection of Prunus laurocerasus from Switzerland is notable for its hardiness and erect habit. Unlike Prunus laurocerasus Rotundifolia which becomes very broad this variety has a slim habit and can be maintained at a hedge width of around 1.0m in the long term.

The elongated leaves are a glossy dark green colour.

Suitable for all soil types and positions, although as with all plants its harder to establish in dry shade.

Photinia has been growing incredibly popular in the last 10 years and is now in the top three hedging best sellers. Being a evergreen with vibrant ruby red leaves in spring, fast growth habit good regenerative qualities its easy to see why this has become one of the markets leaders.

From the end of spring into early summer the ruby red spring leaves turn green and at this point I would give the hedge a good trim, whereupon it will produce a second flush of red leaves, but not quite as vibrant as the first.

Plant in a full sun, sheltered position. If the soil is dry then add additional organic content.
