Buxus Sempervirens

Description
Known also as Box, Boxwood & Common Box, Buxus sempervirens is one of Britain`s few native broad leaved evergreens. Box in topiary form has been part of the English garden for centuries and is still just as popular. It was grown in hedge form as a surround for medieval herb plots, and formed the basic pattern for the Elizabethan knot garden.
Today Box is still the commonest and most suitable shrub, with English Yew for topiary work.
With its small leave and dense habit it creates a manicured formal look in many garden designs and can also be used in pots and planters if well fed. It grows well in full sun and semi-shade. Trim to shape from May to early June and again in September if required. Always trim on a cloudy day to avoid scorch to the fresh new leaves.
Box requires plenty of water but never likes to sit in water so a fertile well drained soil is required.
