Araucaria araucana

Description

The Monkey Puzzle tree develops into a broadly conical or dome-shaped crown. The Evergreen leaves are bright green, thick and leathery, can be ovate or triangular and have very sharp tips.

The green seed cone takes 2-3 years to mature, before it turns brown and opens to release the seeds. Ultimately the tree can grow up to around 30-35m high and 5-7m wide in the UK, whilst in Chile will reach a size far superior to this.

Grows well in light, fertile, well drained permeable soil.
