Cordyline Australis

Description

The Cordyline australis is also known as a Torbay Palm, a Cabbage Palm, or if you are from New Zealand you may well know it just as a Cabbage. It is an evergreen tree with a central single stem protected by pale brown bark. As the plant grows the lower leaves become redundant as the trunk grows and several years you will have a 2-3m high trunk with a strong tufted head.

The plant requires full sun, and has no preference on soil type as long as its well drained.

The plant works well in a variety of locations and is frequently used in pots and containers when it is younger, moved into the garden when it develops and can also be seen in maritime positions on the English riviera.
