Euphorbia mellifera

Description

Euphorbia mellifera is commonly known as a Canary spurge or honey spurge and is a native of the Canary islands. This evergreen plant has fantastic 20cm long mid-green leaves with a lime coloured contrasting central vein and stems which makes them popular in Mediterranean planting schemes or mixed with other architectural plants.

In the spring these Euphorbia produce brown, honey scented flowers which attract bees.

Ideally position in full sun in well drained soil. This plant will grow ultimately up to 1.80m high and wide and can be pruned after flowering in the spring to keep it compact.

Safety Notice : Always wear gloves when pruning this plant as the milky sap exuded from the pruned stems is highly irritable to the skin and eyes.

Origin : Canaries islands & Madeira.
