Photinia x fraseri Red Robin – Topiary

Description

These very popular evergreen Red Robin`s are a bit special as they have an extra tall stem measuring 120/140cm high and the head above compared to a regular half standard with a 90/100cm stem. Crowned on top with a 45/50cm diameter ball head these plants are really useful if you need a attractive topiary piece with a little extra height.

The new leaves on the plant are vibrant ruby red when they first appear in the spring. From the summer the leaves gradually turn green but they continue to spring new splashes of red leaves to brighten up the plant.

Photinia Red Robin does produce some white flower but we would always recommend pruning this off on the topiary plants so that you do not experience late summer leaf loss.

They require a good sunny position and do not tolerate shade. They adapt to all types of soil, but prefer a loose soil that is not to dry.

Trim to shape with secateurs early spring before the new leaf growth appears.
